2007, October 26 - CCSAA SURVEY FOLLOWING DHS COST CONSULTANCIES
The Clinical Costing Standards Association of Australia Ltd (CCSAA) in conjunction with the Department of Human Services (DHS) is conducting a short costing survey.
Following previous Victorian cost data collections for the formation of annual DRG funding weights, the attached survey is required in order to seek clarification from Health Services regarding a number of recent cost consultancies. The attached survey includes a number of worksheets relating to the DHS “Review of Costs and Revenue for Inpatient Maternity Care” and the “Review of Chemotherapy and Non-Admitted Radiotherapy Costing and Funding – Chemotherapy”.
We request that this survey be completed by the Costing Officer in each Health Service and returned by email to the CCSAA at ‘admin@ccsaa.com’ by Wednesday, 14th November, 2007. Feedback from this survey will also be reviewed by DHS and used by the CCSAA to develop and implement common clinical costing standards and business rules for all hospitals to use in costing Maternity, Pharmacy and Patient Transport services.

***UPDATE****Subject: Re: HITH Costs for the 2006-07 Cost Weight Study (23 November 2006)
As discussed at CCSAA's October meeting, i can now confirm that DHS requires HITH costs to be reported for this years cost study (ie, 2005-06 cost data).
Notably, this will need to be confirmed annually.
The Department began collecting HITH costs 2 years ago in response to:
i) the marked growth in HITH activity (currently ~16% per annum compared to non-HITH activity growth of ~4% per annum)
ii) the need to inform cost weight setting for HITH activity (i.e. HITH high outlier per diem weights)
Significant growth in HITH activity is expected to continue, hence the need to cost this activity (at least for this year).
